Even with a poor visibility, which was a problem for our two "vigias" (lockouts), the men looking for whales and dolphins, we went out to the sea again today. Quickly we discovered a school of Common Dolphins just close the Ponta Delgada town. We stayed with these friends for some moments untill the other "vigia" discovered a huge school of Bottlenose Dolphins. They were outside Caloura. Our crew discovered that this was a familiar group that usually surrounds the island. The dolphins were very playful.

So far this year the weather conditions have not been so good and we have only had five tours so far. Until now we have observed common dolphins, bottlenose dolphins and Risso's dolphins. On the 14th of January we added another species to our list for this year - pilot whales! A group of about 30 individuals made up of subgroups of females, calves and males were sighted south of Praia da Amora. We stopped the boat for a few minutes to watch them as they stayed calmly around the boat.
