January 2009 sighting statistics


Our sighting statistics are regular for this month. The difference is that for the first time we had Atlantic spotted dolphins in January (usually these dolphins leave the Azores during the colder winter months). This year in January we encountered five different cetacean species. Encounter frequencies (number of days encountered of all the days we went to sea) for these species are shown in the graph above and common names are listed below (ordered by those most encountered first):
