A beautiful clear day on the sea

Today is another beautiful sunny day in São Miguel, Azores. The sky is a brilliant blue colour and the sun is shinning strong, lighting up the land to bring out the bright tones of the island. It was a perfect day for us to be on the ocean, enjoying the sunshine and the views of the island from the boat. We were out on one of our zodiac boats in the morning and we travelled to the east of the island to view some dolphins that our vigia (onshore lookout) had spotted there. Unfortunately the dolphins were very difficult to watch and we only managed to have a brief glimpse before we lost sight of them. We also briefly saw a turtle before it dived down and we passed several bird species (many skuas, yellow-legged gulls, great black-backed gulls and black-headed gulls). On our way back we made a stop at Vila Franca Islet where we spotted an Azorean buzzard perching high up on a branch. Before arriving back to Ponta Delgada we had a look at a large Portuguese man-o-war that was floating in the water (which was very clear so that we could see its beautiful details very well). Even though we did not encounter dolphins and whales on this tour, everybody enjoyed the ride and the sights along the way and they are able to go on another tour free of charge, as this is our guarantee if no whales or dolphins are encountered.
