In contrast to yesterday we had very cloudy and grey conditions today, but at least sperm whales made an appearance during our tour this morning. Our vigia spotted 2 large sperm whales in the area and after a bit of waiting we got to have an encounter with one of them. The whale was familiar to us - an individual we refer to as Mancha Branca (Portuguese for white patch because this whale has a white patch on it's back that looks a bit like a saddle). We first photographed this particular whale here in March 2011 and since then we have had at least 4 more encounters with this whale. During the morning we also encountered some common dolphins and a group of bottlenose dolphins to end our tour before we headed back to base along the coastline.
