March 2009 sighting statistics

During our whale watching tours in March we have encountered 8 different cetacean species. The most encountered whale was our resident sperm whale, although we have also encountered fin whales as they are migrating past this time of the year. We have not encountered any other migratory baleen whales, but we have had surprise encounters with the very shy beaked whales (Cuvier's beaked whales and True's beaked whales). As always we have also sighted many dolphins in all of our tours (common dolphins were sighted every day we went to sea this month) to complete our tours. All 8 species sighted are listed below (ordered by those most encountered) and sighting frequencies (days encountered of all the day we went to sea) of these species can be seen in the graph above.
