Today we encountered all four of our resident cetacean species. The biggest of them all is the sperm whale, which also happens to be the largest animal in the world with teeth. We encountered a family group of sperm whales off the south coast of São Miguel Island in the morning and again in the afternoon. Getting a tail from them was not easy, but we did get to see them well as they were logging at the surface. There were at least two calves in this group, we got to see both of them in the afternoon, and also the tail of one of the adults that was with the second calf. Our three resident dolphin species; bottlenose dolphins, common dolphins and Risso's dolphins, were also around today, and all of our clients got to see at least one of these species. We were delighted to also see baby dolphins of all three species :)
