Sunday | Whale Watching Azores

Today we had a great day in Futurismo, we went to sea this morning to see three different species, common and bottlenose dolphins and two beautiful and gorgeous fin whales, baleen season is here and this big animals have already arrived to the Azores! We also did very exciting swimming with dolphins activities in which today we had the chance to swim with some bottlenose dolphins.

Friday | Whale and Dolphin Watching Azores

Yes, we saw a Fin whale today. This is a first in march! The Fin whale came to the surface to breath two or tree times and than she took a dive again. We also saw a big group of Bottlenose dolphins. Looked like they were more than 100 animals! They were enjoying the sea and one of them gave us one spectacular jump! What a wonderful day in the ocean.

Thursday | Dolphin Watching in Ponta Delgada

Today the sun was shinning and the ocean was full of dolphins. We encountered both common dolphins and bottlenose dolphins in several different groups spread out over a large area. Further to the east our lookout also spotted two fin whales so of course we went there to investigate. Unfortunately by the time we arrived the whales were gone and despite our tireless attempts to find the whales again they were nowhere to be seen. Sometimes nature is like this and there isn't anything we can do about it. It's nice to know that the whales are out there, so we hope that tomorrow we will have the honour of actually seeing them.

Tuesday | Risso's dolphin, bottlenose dolphins & common dolphins

Today we enjoyed the company of our three resident dolphin species: common dolphins, bottlenose dolphins and Risso's dolphins. We had really nice conditions for seeing these beautiful animals, with calm waters, nice soft light and reflections in the almost mirror-like water. As well as the dolphins we also encountered a lot of shearwaters and Portuguese man-o-war in the water (a good sign that the spring is here).

Thursday | Whale and Dolphin Watching Azores

Today it has been a great day for us in Futurismo, after such a long time with bad weather conditions, today finally we saw the sun!
In the morning we saw some nice groups of common dolphins feeding mainly. In the afternoon we went to the same area but instead of common dolphins we found some nice and active bottlenose dolphins! The highlight of the day was the sperm whales we found in the end of the tour. Enjoy!
