A perfect sunny day in the company of blue whales

This morning started with the perfect weather conditions. We started our whale watching tour with a big group of bottlenose dolphins, some of them looked like mating which makes them looking more active and interactive. After that we went more far away looking for whales, we ended up with blue whales, at least 4 of them! We also saw fin whales in this amazing spring day!

One blue whale tail and more to discover

Today was another wonderful day at sea. Take a look at this picture of a blue whale right in front of the zodiac boat! What a fantastic feeling! We were again with two of the largest animals in the world: Fin whale and blue whale. We were able to spot at least four different Fin whales and the blue whale presented us with its majestic tail. We also encountered Common and Bottlenose dolphins and a turtle. What a beautiful day at sea!

Pico Island in the company of a Blue whale

Today in Pico Island we got to see again a Blue whale tail. Blue whales are the largest animals in the world.  They can easily be detected from great a distance because the strong vertical blow. We saw two during our tour! We could also see risso's dolphins interacting with common dolphins, Cory's shearwaters and turtles! Another amazing day!

A flying shark and the first Blue Whale of the year!

Today we had an amazing morning time. We started our tour in the company of common dolphins they were behaving in a different way, kind of feeding. We went closer to the group and we could see one dolphin chasing a shortfin mako shark! The shark even jumped out of the water! After this amazing sight we went in the direction of Vila Franca do Campo to see fin whales and…our first Blue Whale of the year! A breathtaking experience during our morning time. In the afternoon we saw bottlenose dolphins and fin whales. The perfect celebration of the Earth Day!

Saturday morning tour in the company of our resident dolphins

The four seasons of the year happened in today’s tour! Sun and rain were alternating all the time.We started our tour with a very big group of bottlenose dolphins the group that we have been seeing this last days, this is at least two different pods that we know together, there are so many…impossible to count. The dolphins were swimming very fast and jumping a lot, probably going somewhere else to feed. Afterwards we meet several smaller groups of common dolphins.

A great day with our resident dolphin species | Dolphin watching | Friday

Today we had a great day with our resident dolphin species! In the morning big groups of bottlenose and commondolphins; for both species the groups were giant and their behaviour was very social; bow riding constantly our boat, jumping with the waves we were creating…
In the afternoon our lookout spotted a Humpback whale but  even though we all went to the area we didn’t managed to spot the animal; nature… ;)

Risso's dolphins and Fin whales | Whale and dolphins watching tour | Thursday

Today was the day of the Risso's dolphins in São Miguel. We had a large group of at least 30 Risso's dolphins together, seen throughout the day and within close proximity of our boats. Usually the Risso's dolphins here are quite shy around boats, but not today! In the morning they seemed to be socialising, almost jumping out of the water and in the afternoon they were grouping up but very calm and seemed to be resting. We also encountered fin whales during the morning tour: a mother and baby pair. They were surfacing frequently and we got to see them really well, to the delight of our passengers. In the morning we also had a boat of for swimming with the bottlenose dolphins, adding a third species to our list of sightings for the day.
